Autoscape - Car Rental Terms and Conditions

The minimum age limit for all categories is 23 years. Additionally, only the individual specified as the driver in the rental agreement is allowed to operate the vehicle.

The Driver must possess and present a valid Driving License issued at least one year prior to the rental date. The driving license must be Greek, European (for EU countries), or International (for countries outside the EU).

At the time of making the electronic reservation on our website, a deposit equivalent to 30% of the total rental price (based on the total rental days and the vehicle category chosen) must be prepaid. The remaining amount (70%) will be settled in cash or by card (Debit or Credit) on the date of vehicle collection by the renter/delivery of the vehicle by the company.

Reservations made concern a category of vehicles that include various models with the same characteristics (e.g., engine capacity, fuel type, luggage space, etc.). In case there is no availability of a vehicle from the reserved category on the date of vehicle collection by the renter, the company may provide a vehicle of a higher category (vehicle category upgrade) at no additional charge.

No monetary amount will be required as a security deposit on the driver’s credit/debit card for renting a vehicle from our company.

Our company provides the option of delivering or picking up the vehicle at the location chosen by the renter (such as Heraklion Port, Nikos Kazantzakis Airport, etc.). Any applicable surcharge on the total rental amount will be based on the distance from our headquarters, for example:

If the reservation is cancelled up to 10 days before the start date of the rental, the amount paid will be refunded and corresponds to 30% of the deposit given on the total amount on the date the online reservation was made. Otherwise, the amount of the deposit paid is not refundable.

On the day of vehicle return, the renter must return it with the same fuel level as it had in the tank on the day it was delivered to them. In the event that, due to an error, the renter refuels the tank with the wrong type of fuel (e.g., refueling with diesel instead of gasoline), the renter will be responsible for the cost of repairing any damage that may occur.

All keys to vehicles in our fleet are encoded and equipped with a chip. In case of loss or damage to the vehicle keys, the renter will bear the cost of their replacement. Additionally, if the keys are locked inside the vehicle, the renter will be responsible for the cost of retrieval (for example, if the intervention of vehicle mechanics is required).

The renter is responsible for violations of the Traffic Code  and is obliged to pay any fines imposed, which occurred during the rental period, even if the aforementioned amounts are requested after the termination of the rental.

Child Seats: Available only upon reservation and with a daily charge of €2.

It is prohibited to transport the rented vehicle outside of Crete by ferry. In any other case, the renter is responsible for the entirety of any damage that may occur to the rented vehicle during its transport by any means, regardless of any coverage and liability limitations accepted and paid for at the beginning of the rental.

Vehicle Usage: The vehicle is owned by the company, and the renter has no rights other than possession and use of the vehicle. The renter cannot sublease, transfer, or sell the vehicle.

During the rental, the use of the vehicle is prohibited:

-Transporting cargo/goods for remuneration or for use either as a commercial vehicle or as an advertising medium to serve the renter’s needs (e.g., placing advertising stickers on it, placing the logo and contact details of another company on it, etc.).

-Transporting passengers for remuneration (e.g., as a taxi or within the framework of carpooling agreements).

-Transporting any object that may damage the vehicle (including explosive or flammable materials) or delay the company’s ability to re-rent the vehicle due to its overall condition or odor.

-Overloading with passengers and/or luggage.

-Towing or pushing any other vehicle, trailer, or object without the explicit consent of the company.

-Off-road or on roads unsuitable for the vehicle, including racetracks.

-Participating in any race, competition, or other contest.

-Restricted areas, including airport service roads and related areas.

-Violation of any traffic regulation or other rule.

-Any illegal purpose.

All drivers of vehicles who have entered into a valid rental agreement with our company are insured with third-party liability coverage for death, bodily injury, and property damage. Both coverages are subject to the general terms of the contract between our company and our cooperating insurance company.

Subject to not violating the Traffic Code (and with the exceptions mentioned below for exemption from insurance coverage), the renter is not liable for damages that may be caused to the rental vehicle.

The insurance coverage does not apply, and our company has the right to seek compensation from the renter equal to the cost of repairing the damage if it occurs to the car under the following circumstances:

1) If the vehicle is driven on any unauthorized road, unpaved road, dirt road, or off-road (e.g., Balos), intentionally or not (e.g., if the driver ventures off-road without reason). In case of violation of this term, the customer is responsible for restoring any damage caused to the lower part of the vehicle, its wheels, and tires, further including the cost of replacing any filters and special cleaning required.

2) If the renter violates traffic rules (e.g., road signs / STOP sign, speed limits, direction of travel, reversals, illegal overtaking by violating the double line).

3) If the renter ventures off-road due to lack of attention.

4) If the renter violates parking rules.

5) If the vehicle is driven on a beach and damages occur due to sand and/or seawater.

6) If the vehicle is driven in any speed race, rally, or competition, or the vehicle is used for remuneration (taxi or courier service).

7) If the vehicle is driven by anyone whose driver’s license has been confiscated or who has never had a suitable driver’s license for that vehicle or is not a registered driver in the rental agreement.

8) If the driver of the vehicle is under the influence of alcohol or any addictive substance affecting his ability to drive the vehicle.

9) If the vehicle sustains damage intentionally or unintentionally due to the negligence of the renter (e.g., damages to the body or doors from strong wind, clutch destruction, dents in the hood/trunk/roof of the vehicle, damages to the interior of the vehicle, damages from pets).

10) If the vehicle is driven after the end of the agreed rental period as stated in the contract (or any previously agreed extension thereof).

11) If the vehicle is used for any purpose that violates Greek laws.

In case of theft of the vehicle, the renter is obligated to return the vehicle key to our company; otherwise, they will be considered responsible and burdened with the cost of vehicle replacement (e.g., if they leave the keys in the car and it is stolen).

In the event of an accident, the renter must immediately contact our company. If the accident involves another vehicle and/or there are injuries or property damage to a third party, the renter is required to promptly notify the Police as well.

The renter is not allowed to leave the scene of the accident without reporting it. If the renter fails to promptly inform our company, then they are obligated to pay for the expenses of repairing any damage caused to the rented vehicle.
